What the vulnerability does

01Description

Multiple plugins and/or themes for WordPress are vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the plugin's bundled lightGallery library (<= 2.8.3) in various versions due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on user supplied attributes. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with Contributor-level access and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page.

Explanation of Vulnerability in Simple Terms

02Summary

LightGallery WP versions up to 1.0.5 contain a stored cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability. An authenticated user with low privileges can inject malicious scripts that execute in the browsers of other site visitors, potentially stealing session tokens or performing actions on their behalf. The vulnerability affects the entire site scope due to how the plugin processes and displays user-supplied content.

What an attacker can do

03Attacker Capabilities

Inject malicious JavaScript that runs in other users' browsers when they view affected pages.

04Site Impact

Visitors' sessions and data are at risk; attackers can steal credentials or perform unauthorized actions as those users.
